HAVEN DISTRO
UPDATE |
HAVEN IN THE
NEWS |
|
Yes I know
it's June now, but we are a re-order
business after all, so our newsletter is
a recap of everything that's been
happening this past month.
Publishers... Look for Enemi
Entertainment to be contacting you
soon. They'll be sending out a form to
make sure that your solicits are kept up
to date for the catalog. Help us help
you to get your listing and cover art in
there for retailers to see.
"Wait... Catalog? What catalog?" you
ask... check out one of the articles on
the right for the scoop on that.
Going forward, all new suppliers will be
sending their submissions to John Kotsis
over at Enemi. There are way too many
of you guys that I have been meaning to
get back to. Just choose "Submissions"
or "Solicits" from our contact form to
get in touch with him.
In addition to the mongo list of new
products in the list below, we are
pleased to be teamed up with Alterna
Comics and of course Dabel Brothers.
We'll be getting in the second printing
of Dresden #1, plus Dresden #2, Wild
Cards and Frankenstein in early June.
And now with Enemi combining their
lineup with ours, we'll be delivering
Arcana, Bloodfire, and Platinum Studios
among others.
And finally, we'd like to welcome Tony
Shenton to the family. Many retailers
may already know Tony as an indie sales
rep. He'll be helping us streamline our
orders for any stores who want to work
with him. If you have any questions,
just ask.
There's
more, even bigger news coming in June or
July! It'll be big enough for the
next newsletter to come out before the
end of the month, even. |

even interview us about.
First up is the
announcement of Haven carrying Dabel Brothers'
books, including Dresden Files! Read the full
article about this and all things Haven at
Publisher's Weekly!
Next up is the new
partnership between Haven and Enemi Entertainment.
Wizard interviewed Enemi's founder and CEO, John
Kotsis to get the scoop.
And Newsarama, among
others, is carrying the
press release detailing the deal.

PUBLISHER
SPOTLIGHT |
|
 |
|
This
month we begin spotlighting publishers
we carry, starting off with the fairly
new
Zenescope Entertainment.
Founded in 2005 by Joe Brusha and Ralph
Tedesco of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
Zenescope is quickly rising with titles
such as the flagship Grimm Fairy
Tales, Return to Wonderland, Willow
Creek and others.
Zenescope also branched out working with
New Line Cinema to create series based
on popular thriller/suspense films
Se7en and Final
Destination.

Zenescope's star is certainly on the
rise, and Haven, currently carrying 7
titles and 61 items of Zenescope
properties, is excited to be a part of
that growth.
Zenescope will be on hand at Wizard
World Chicago June 26-29, so be sure to
stop by and say hi!

Dracula
vs. King Arthur: Vampires vs.
Knights RPG Announced
|
Dracula
vs. King Arthur, the critically
acclaimed hit graphic novel
published by Silent Devil, will now
be adapted into a role playing game
entitled VAMPIRES vs. KNIGHTS by
screenwriter/author Tony DiGerolamo.
Vampires vs. Knights is a
d20 role-playing supplement
that uses the Dungeons and
Dragons system. D&D players
will thrill to the campaign
set in Arthur's Camelot and
specialized weaponry to
combat the vampire menace.
Other players can actually
take up the mantle of a
vampire knight and try and
extinguish the hope of
humanity forever!
DiGerolamo is an old school
gamer that has written game
material for Kenzer &
Company, Goodman Games, West
End Games and the Le Games.
He also designed his own
RPG, Complete Mafia for d20.
"Adam Beranek, one of the
co-creators of DvKA, and I
are thrilled Tony agreed to
write the game based on our
concept," says
screenwriter/graphic
novelist Christian Beranek.
"Fans will be able to create
their own characters and
adventures -- there are
going to be many awesome
battles between knights and
vampires for years to come."
Christian Beranek wrote the
screenplay for the upcoming
Dracula vs. King Arthur
movie. Recently he penned
the origin of John Doe for
the New Line Cinema/Zenescope
series Se7en and launched
the graphic novel concept
Willow Creek. He will be
attending the Emerald City
Comicon this coming weekend
as a guest.
Vampires vs. Knights will be
in stores Spring 2009.
Christian Beranek and Tony
DiGerolamo will personally
demo the game at select
conventions.

The Middleman TV Show |
ABC
has confirmed that the Middle Man,
based on the Viper Comics series of the
same name, will premier this June.

Then she bravely faced a creature way
beyond the bounds of her reality, and in
so doing, impressed the straight-laced
hero known as the Middleman. Hello, new
career! Now she's balancing her art, her
friends, and saving the planet while
battling alien evils for the world's
most ludicrously secret organization.
The Middleman -- fighting evil so you
don't have to.

Highly
Anticipated Graphic Novel "The Chair" |
A
message from Alterna Comics President
and Publisher, Peter Simeti
I'm
very happy to say that the graphic novel
I've created and written (and inked,
colored, and lettered) is FINALLY coming
to a store shelf near you! After a year
and a half, the book is making it's
debut in June Previews.
THE CHAIR is
a psychological thriller that takes
place on death row. Richard Sullivan has
spent the past 10 years on death-row,
awaiting execution for crimes he claims
he never committed. But lately strange
events have started occurring in the
prison, including a piling body count of
inmates, a viciously sadistic warden,
and enough twists and turns to make
Sullivan question his own sanity. Can he
prove his innocence before it's too late
- or is there entirely something else
going on?
Written by
myself and penciled by new artist Kevin
Christensen, THE CHAIR is recommended
for mature readers (language and some
gore/violence) and clocks in at 136 B&W
pages for a cover price of $13.95.
ISBN:
9780979787423
Diamond Order Code: JUN08 3610

The
Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle #1
Sells Out |
|
Dabel
Brothers Publishing is pleased to
announce that Jim Butcher's The Dresden
Files: Welcome to the Jungle #1 has
officially sold out at Diamond. Written
exclusively for comics by Dresden Files
creator and New York Times bestselling
author Jim Butcher and art by newcomer
Ardian Syaf, the series is on its way to
becoming the sleeper hit of 2008.
The series
has received favorable reviews, amidst a
growing media buzz, with mentions in
Wizard Magazine and Entertainment
Weekly.
According to
retailers, copies of The Dresden Files:
Welcome to the Jungle #1 have been
flying off the shelves. Ralph DiBernardo,
owner of retailer Jetpack Comics in
Rochester, NH had this to say: “While
sales at our store were brisk, sales at
New York Comic Con were overwhelming. We
literally had only 2 or 3 other new
titles that outsold Dresden at NYCC.
Given the diverse crowd of NYCC this
speaks volumes for the quality and
excitement of translating these novels
into comic book format. No one
understands the genre crossover market
better than the Dabels.”
Dabel
Brothers Publishing is currently
scheduling a 2nd printing of the first
issue, which will feature a new cover by
artist Marat Mychaels. The re-print will
happen within the next 30 days, and
retailers interested in ordering copies
should check with Diamond Comics
Distributors for further details.
“While we
were certainly hoping for big things
from this series,” said Dabel Brother
President Ernst Dabel, “it seems what
has happened so far has definitely
exceeded everyone’s expectations. The
response across the board, from press to
retailers to fans, has been
overwhelmingly positive…everyone seems
to love Jim Butcher, Harry Dresden, and
this series!”
Retailers
are advised to review their orders for
the remaining issues of Jim Butcher’s:
The Dresden Files: Welcome to the
Jungle, as the demand of the book is
sure to lead to more sell outs.
The Dresden
Files: Welcome to the Jungle #’s 1-2 can
be ordered using the following Haven
order numbers:
DRES001 The
Dresden Files #1 (of 4) - Welcome to the
Jungle $3.99
DRES002 The
Dresden Files #2 (of 4) - Welcome to the
Jungle
On Order
$3.99

RETAILER TIPS
- MARKETING TO KIDS |
 |
|
Trying to
figure out why your sales to kids just
aren't there in your store? Walk around
on your knees and see what kids can see!
Sure, you
may have the latest trading cards or
kids item by the register. But most
registers are too high for kids to see!
You want
Little Johnny to be able to pull on his
dad's pant's leg howling like a banshee
for the hottest new toy/comic etc.
If he can't
see it then he can't scream for it.
